Maria Masciotti Appointed Director of Development at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell

To Direct Fundraising Activities for Concurrent College and Hospital Campaigns in Collaboration with Campaign Directors

New York, NY (February 24, 2004) — Maria Masciotti, a development professional with more than 20 years of experience at several of New York's leading academic and cultural institutions, has been named Director of Development at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center. Ms. Masciotti will play a pivotal role in ensuring the success of both the College and the Hospital annual development programs at the Weill Cornell 68th Street Center, as well as these two institutions' concurrent capital campaigns.

Previously, Ms. Masciotti was the Director of Major Gifts at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell.

With two ambitious campaigns in the works, Ms. Masciotti's role is crucial to the Medical Center. Dr. Antonio M. Gotto, Jr., Dean of Weill Cornell Medical College, expressed great confidence in Ms. Masciotti's abilities. "Maria has been a valuable member of our development team," said Dr. Gotto. "Her leadership will help bring Weill Cornell and the Medical Center to the next level in medical research and education."

Dr. Herbert Pardes, President and CEO of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System, echoed these remarks: "We are fortunate to have Maria as the Director of Development. As Director of Development, Ms. Masciotti spearheads the development activities of the Medical Center. She reports directly to Larry Schafer, Vice President and Vice Provost of Development, who commented, "We look forward to working with Maria. Her experience is a real asset to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell."

In collaboration with Jay Angeletti, Director of the Hospital campaign, and Mindy Miller, Director of the College campaign, Ms. Masciotti is responsible for developing and instituting strategies to secure philanthropic support for the Medical College and the Hospital. She oversees officers in charge of planned giving and annual giving programs, corporate and foundation relations, and special events. She also directs major gifts officers and supervises a staff of more than 40 development professionals.

Ms. Masciotti sees her own role, as Director of Development, as "translating the complexities of the Medical Center into fundraising tools and strategies, and directing their implementation." She approaches both the Hospital and College campaigns with equal tenacity and enthusiasm.

Medical College Capital Campaign

Launched in early 2002, Advancing the Clinical Mission has raised $434 million toward its goal, including a total of $150 million in gifts from Sanford and Joan Weill and Maurice and Corinne Greenberg. It is the second of three phases of Weill Cornell Medical College's capital campaign. Phase One, titled the Strategic Plan for Research, was successfully completed in 1999 and generated $316 million in gifts toward advancing Weill Cornell's research mission.

The Medical College's second phase of its Campaign comprises several key components, including new and enhanced clinical programs, recruitment of new faculty, endowment for funds for students and faculty, infrastructure upgrades, and renovated facilities. The Campaign seeks to fulfill its $750 million goal by December 2006.

To achieve this goal, Ms. Masciotti coordinates her fundraising activities with Mindy Miller; the Board of Overseers; Kevin Brine, Campaign Chairman; Dr. Gotto; the faculty; and the planning and finance offices.

Hospital Capital Campaign

On the Hospital side, Ms. Masciotti participates in strategic and operational oversight of the Capital Campaign being conducted at the 68th Street campus of NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, the clinical partner of Weill Cornell. This Campaign focuses on both expansion of the Hospital's facilities and the recruitment of additional physicians. Several key elements of the Campaign are the construction of new operating rooms, new neuro-intensive care units, and a new MRI building to meet the growing demand for imaging technology. Other elements include a staff expansion of new service chiefs and additional physicians in key subspecialty areas. NewYork-Presbyterian aims to meet its goal of $1 billion by 2010.

For the Hospital campaign, Ms. Masciotti works with Jay Angeletti; the Board of Trustees; Jerry Speyer, Campaign Chairman; Dr. Pardes; and the planning and finance offices. The Hospital's Campaign comprises both uptown (168th Street) and downtown campuses, and will fund major portions of the Capital Investment Plan. This extraordinary effort will transform NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center into an academic medical center second to none across the nation and throughout the world.

Maria Masciotti

Ms. Masciotti has built an impressive career on directing ambitious fundraising efforts for several of New York's prominent non-profit institutions. Prior to joining the Medical College as the Director of Major Gifts in 2002, Ms. Masciotti was the Associate Vice President for Individual Giving at The New York Botanical Garden (NYBG), where she headed efforts for the Horticulture and Living Collections Campaign and for the Garden's Campaign for Endowment. At NYBG, she also served as Associate Vice President for Special Events and Director of Special Events before being promoted to the position of Associate Vice President for Individual Giving.

Ms. Masciotti had also played a crucial role in the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum's fundraising success, where she had served as the Director of Special Events.

Ms. Masciotti holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Lehman College and a Masters degree in Public Administration from Baruch College. She is the mother of three children and the grandmother of twin grandsons. Ms. Masciotti currently resides with her husband of 24 years in the Bronx, where she was born and raised.
